ABSTRACT

This research examines student preference toward online and on-ground (i.e., face-to-face) course delivery methods in higher education as a result of the easing of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Over 130 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Computer and Information Systems courses at a university located in the northeastern United States were surveyed from April 2021 to May 2022. The study found that with the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in Spring 2022, students significantly preferred on-ground over online courses in comparison to their preferences when COVID-19 restrictions were still high in 2021. None of the potential influencing factors contributing to the changed preference, including students' perceptions of online course effectiveness, self-skills supporting online learning (e.g., work independently without supervision, prioritization and time management), and the usefulness of classroom interaction in learning, were found to have significant differences from the time when COVID-19 restrictions were high to the present easing of them. © 2023 Issues in Information Systems. ABSTRACT

Broiler chicken eggs are one of the main and strategic foods for the people of Indonesia and contribute to regional and national inflation. Broiler egg production in Indonesia differs between regions. Areas with a surplus of eggs tend to have lower prices than areas with a deficit. This research is to measure the transmission of broiler egg prices between markets in surplus and deficit areas, using weekly price time series data for the period January 2018-December 2021. Areas of surplus broiler eggs, East Java Province (the highest broiler egg production in Indonesia) which become one of the main suppliers to the Province of East Nusa Tenggara as a deficit area. Using the Johannsen cointegration test it is found that there is no cointegration or there is no relationship between the surplus and deficit regions in the long term but not in the short term. Factors of marketing infrastructure, market information systems, and geographical conditions can be obstacles to the absence of cointegration. The VAR (Vector Auto-Regressive) Vector Error Correction model (VECM) test, found that price transmission occurred between surplus and deficit areas, meaning that between the two regions, there was market integration prior to Covid. The transmission has weakened, and due to the Covid situation, there have been restrictions on the movement of people and goods. The government and other market players need to study the response of the broiler egg market, in the short and long term so that market players can make the right policies.

ABSTRACT

This paper contributes to conceptualization of information system resilience. By building upon and extending the framework of Heeks and Ospina (2019), we argue that an information system's ability to be resilient lies in its balance between stability and flexibility. Based on empirical findings we suggest that a stable core and flexibility to change is crucial when a digital system is faced with unforeseen adversities. We hope to contribute to more theorizing of the information system resilience and inspire further research on this subject. The paper may also have practical value for stakeholders working with implementation of national information systems in the health sector. This is a qualitative case study conducted together with the Health Information Systems Programme (HISP) at the Institute of Informatics, University of Oslo. Our findings are based on empirical insights related to the DHIS2 software during the Covid-19 response. © 2022 Owner/Author.

ABSTRACT

The World Health Statistics report detailed an overall shortage of services, in and outside the health system, to prevent and treat non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The report also highlighted the need for stronger data and health information systems, owing to "uneven capacities to collect and use accurate, timely, and comparable health statistics.” Samira Asma, WHO assistant director general, said, "As the world battles the most serious pandemic in 100 years, just a decade away from the SDG [sustainable development goal] deadline, we must act together to strengthen primary healthcare and focus on the most vulnerable among us in order to eliminate the gross inequalities that dictate who lives a long, healthy life and who doesn't.”

ABSTRACT

Giving the COVID-19 vaccine has many benefits, including increasing immunity from exposure to COVID-19 and preventing new mutations from COVID-19. In addition, the COVID-19 vaccine that has been injected into the community has gone through a series of strict tests, so that it is guaranteed to be safe, quality and efficacious. The research aims to cluster the spread of the corona virus in DKI Jakarta province which is displayed on a visual map using ArcGIS Technology. Based on the data on the spread of the corona virus which has been grouped using K-means clustering, it is hoped that it can help make the right decisions in vaccination and the priority of COVID-19 assistance that is determined and directed based on information cluster, so this research is expected to help the government in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia, especially DKI Jakarta. In addition, this research also aims to see the correlation between the COVID-19 vaccine and the number of positive cases of Covid-19. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 is caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. First started in Wuhan, COVID-19 has spread everywhere, including Indonesia. COVID-19 can cause severe pneumonia, severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) symptoms, and multiple organ failure. According to the WHO, COVID-19 generally has an incubation period of 5-6 days, ranging from 1 to 14 days. However, in Jakarta, the cases have decreased significantly since the implementation of PPKM (Restrictions of Activity), running since early July 2021. The government claimed that the PPKM rule has significantly impacted COVID-19 cases, decreasing every day, especially in Jawa-Bali Region. In addition, the Vaccination rate in Indonesia also played a significant part in decreasing COVID-19 cases, with Jakarta currently standing with 9 million people fully vaccinated per December 2021. To monitor the development of COVID-19 in Jakarta and provide information to the public about health facilities, especially hospitals in Jakarta, in this study, the distribution area of COVID-19 cases will be mapped with CHIME using ArcGIS Online tools. The analysis results obtained based on the mapping results that most cases were in the Cengkareng area, and the area with the most hospitals werein East Jakarta. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

There is no doubt that epidemics and pandemics have transformed dentistry beyond recognition. In this commentary we recapitulate the possible reasons for the emergence of major global epidemics and pandemics, how and why they emerge, and the successful attempts of the dental profession to mitigate infectious transmission in the clinic, which in turn has metamorphosed our profession today. We also peer into the future of dentistry through the prism of the new conceptual approach of 'one world, one health' recently declared by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Finally, we discuss five realms of dentistry that have been irretrievably impacted by the recent COVID-19 pandemic, viz vaccines, point of care diagnostics, teledentistry, reinforced infection control, and dental pedagogy. CPD/Clinical Relevance: Vaccines and vaccinations have become integral to societal wellbeing and the prevention of global pandemics.

ABSTRACT

In Italy, there is a clear disparity between cities and villages located in marginal areas. The progressive depopulation of inland areas and the urban polarization represent consolidated dynamics difficult to adapt to the new paradigm of sustainable development. The post-Covid-19 pandemic scenario offers the opportunity to redefine new parameters of intervention and new visions for the regeneration of villages in accord with the new challenges of decentralization and distancing. The project «Renaissance of villages for the revitalization of marginal areas» (2021) aims to create the conditions to repopulate and rebalance shrinking territories by establishing new centres of attractiveness. This project envisages the active involvement of municipalities to implement multi-sectoral analysis and spatial assessment approaches in planning processes. It intends to develop an interactive web dashboard for local authorities and spatial planners to create both a learning environment and a participative spatial decision support system for future local policy actions toward sustainable local development. This study presents the project's preliminary phase which aims to create the general framework of the web dashboard. A reconstruction of the village definition and the spatial selection of villages throughout Italy are presented as innovative aspects since the absence of an agreed definition of the village in the national and international level documents. Moreover, this study provides a quantitative spatial multivariate analysis cluster that analyzes, and groups Italian territories based on socioeconomic dynamics. The result of this analysis allows us to divide the territory into archetypes and to structure a framework that supports the definition of future scenarios for the regeneration of small urban areas considering the diversified needs and potential of the villages belonging to specific archetypes analyzed in the study.

ABSTRACT

There is a need for synchronous and inclusive online peer tutoring in large, undergraduate classes. As a lack of data or internet connectivity may limit online peer tutoring, the use of a data-free instant messenger was implemented for online tutoring in a class of 342 students. The Moya application allows students to chat and send voice notes to tutors and peers without using data. Sending attachments incurs data costs but the amount of data is displayed prior to downloading. The qualitative interpretivist case study used data collected from purposive sampling via an online survey. Consent was received from 252 third-year Information Systems students at a historically disadvantaged university. Qualitative data were analysed via thematic content analysis using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 model as a theoretical basis. Findings indicate that the majority of students (85.7%) did not use the data-free Moya instant messenger. Reasons for the low usage included a negative performance expectancy, as students did not see the benefit in using the application to engage with peers or tutors. Perceived effort expectancy was low, as students did not desire to learn to use a new application. Results showed that using WhatsApp was a habit. Moreover, social influence was a factor, as fellow students and tutors were also using WhatsApp. Students recommended increasing awareness of the Moya application and providing training. The price value was expected to be a significant factor as this application does not require data, but this was not the case. Facilitating conditions show that students had data for WhatsApp. Moya has the same interface design as the preferred WhatsApp so learning to use the application should require minimal effort. The unexpected findings indicate that students prefer WhatsApp, an instant messenger that requires data, over a datafree instant messenger. The findings leave lecturers questioning whether using WhatsApp for online peer tutoring is the more viable option.

ABSTRACT

Adding to the already polarizing 2020 general election was the COVID-19 pandemic. One way in which this pandemic greatly affected the election was through an increased participation in by-mail, or mail-in, ballots. The state of North Carolina experienced a 316 percent increase in by-mail votes between 2016 and 2020, when approximately 977,186 votes were cast by mail. It is no surprise that this increase was due to the COVID-19 pandemic;however, these by-mail voting patterns are spatial in nature and vary across the state. This research measures to what degree COVID-19 rates affected by-mail voting rates. Using geographic information systems data developed from robust tabular files provided by the North Carolina State Board of Elections, by-mail votes were calculated and mapped at ZIP code scale and compared to COVID-19 rates measured at different dates. By-mail rates taken from final absentee tallies for the highest and lowest COVID-19 ZIP codes saw no significant differences across multiple dates (30 September 2020 and 31 October 2020) when COVID-19 data were collected. COVID-19 hot spots (high COVID-19 rates surrounded by other high COVID-19 rates) were extracted using geostatistical techniques and compared to COVID-19 cold spots (low COVID-19 rates surrounded by other low COVID-19 rates). It was found the lowest by-mail rates actually occurred in these COVID-19 hot spots across both dates, as well a metric that expressed percentage change in COVID-19 rates in the month before the 2020 election.

ABSTRACT

This research aims to analyze the resilience of humanitarian supply chains, with a focus on the role of information systems, through a case study of Médecins Sans Frontières Logistique during the COVID-19 pandemic. The empirical research methodology is based on a qualitative study, which includes semi-structured interviews with key actors and operators from the Médecins Sans Frontières Logistique during the COVID-19 crisis in 2020 and 2021. The paper highlights the crucial and inherent role of information systems on each of the four dimensions of humanitarian supply chain resilience: reorganization capacity, collaboration, flexibility, and humanitarian culture. Drawing on recent theoretical works on supply chain resilience as well as empirical results, the paper underscores the importance of information systems and proposes a conceptual model of the relationship between humanitarian supply chain resilience and the role of information systems. The value of this research is linked to its empirical and qualitative study of a Non-Governmental Organization logistics operation during an international crisis, which contributes not only to the literature on resilience, but also provides guidance for managers to target their actions responsively and proactively to enhance resilience over time.. ABSTRACT

After the coronavirus outbreak, the disease known as COVID-19 has been infecting millions of people, and the number of deaths is pilling up to hundreds of thousands. In Indonesia, especially Jakarta, some of the deaths are caused by pandemic-related surges that strain hospital capacity. Besides, people had many obstacles in this pandemic condition because of the lack of knowledge about COVID-19. On that matter, several models emerged worldwide to help inform public decision making in this pandemic situation. With today's technological advances the CHIME (COVID-19 Hospital Impact Model for Epidemics) application is designed to assist hospitals and public health officials with understanding hospital capacity needs as they relate to the COVID pandemic. This paper aims to help inform public health decision making regarding the transmission of COVID-19 in Jakarta using CHIME. This work uses Jakarta COVID-19 data from November 24th, 2021 and its accumulation from 14 days before (November 10th, 2021) to predict the course of COVID-19 in 30 days. With ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Experience, this work successfully made a map that uses CHIME to inform about peak demand of each city in DKI Jakarta and the daily new admissions and hospitalization graph. In addition, a Jakarta COVID-19 dashboard is also made to inform more about the transmission of COVID-19. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

It has been witnessed that digital technology has the potential to improve the efficiency of emergent healthcare management in COVID-19, which however has not been widely adopted due to unclear definition and configuration. This research aims to propose a proof of concept of digital twins for emergent healthcare management through configuring the cyber and functional interdependencies of healthcare systems at local and city levels. Critical interdependencies of healthcare systems have been firstly identified at both levels, then the information and associated cyber and functional interdependencies embedded in seven critical hospital information systems (HISs) have been identified and mapped. The proposed conceptual digital twin-based approach has been then developed for information coordination amongst these critical HISs at both local and city levels based on permissioned blockchain to (1) integrate and manage the information from seven critical HISs, and further (2) predict the demands of medical resources according to patient trajectory. A case study has been finally conducted at three hospitals in London during the COVID-19 period, and the results showed that the developed framework of blockchain-integrated digital twins is a promising way to provide more accurate and timely procurement information to decision-makers and can effectively support evidence-based decisions on medical resource allocation in the pandemic. © 2023 ICE Publishing: All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

This paper aims to understand what motivates students at universities in Indonesia to continue using Online Collaborative Tools (OCTs) for their collaboration work. Utilising OCTs is crucial as the COVID-19 pandemic hit us in 2019 and forced all of us, particularly those who studied at university, to work online as precautionary measures. This research employs the Post-Acceptance Model of Information Systems (IS) approach to understand this issue. For an OCT to continue use, performance: effectivity, efficiency, and certainty is the key determinant, and perceived usability: perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and perceived enjoyment mediates confirmation and satisfaction and the intention to continue use. A total of 354 participants are involved in the data analysis employing Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Our results revealed that while the relationship between confirmation and satisfaction is partially mediated by perceived ease of use and enjoyment, the relationship between confirmation and intention to continue use is also partially mediated by perceived usefulness and enjoyment, and satisfaction. We found that the intention to continue using the OCT can be determined by 67.9% (substantial) of the variance of the model. Our research contributes theoretically to the IS research in this context and practically to the OCT discourse. Limitations and future research directions are discussed © 2023, International Journal of Emerging Technologies in Learning. All Rights Reserved.

ABSTRACT

Alternate :Public administration is one of the most common targets of cyber threats. Cyberattacks against public and local governments are becoming increasingly targeted, sophisticated, and are capable of causing ever greater damage. Information systems security requires effective physical, logical and administrative measures, which needs knowledge of current trends in information security incidents. The aim of this study is to provide a comprehensive analysis of information security incidents detected by the National Cyber-Security Centre of Hungary between 2019 and 2021 in order to identify national incident trends affecting public administrations. ABSTRACT

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the widespread adoption of mobile devices, video-based online learning has emerged as a critical mode of education. However, empirical research on the determinants of online learning behavior and intention among video users remains scarce. To explore the factors influencing the continuous intention of users to engage in YouTube video-based online learning, the present study drew on the perceived value theory and the ECM perspective to construct a model. This study is a quantitative study in which 669 valid data were collected from online users of online learning and communication communities through online questionnaires distributed by non-probability sampling, and the constructed model was tested using SPSS 27.0 and AMOS 27.0. The results revealed that perceived value had a positive direct effect on continuous intention and an indirect effect through satisfaction on continuous intention. Therefore, to effectively and sustainably promote video-based online learning, measures should be taken to enhance users' continuous intention and retention. Thereafter, suggestions for further research were proposed.

ABSTRACT

Air quality and environmental justice To introduce how socioeconomic status affects the physical aspects of exposure to differing air-quality levels, students used an anthropological technique of comparison to "make the strange familiar and the familiar strange." Students analyzed a New York Times story revealing the air-quality inequities of two teens residing in India: "Who Gets to Breathe Clean Air in New Delhi?" For 25 minutes, students interact with the website and reflect on paper: * One new and interesting fact that they encountered in the article about air quality, * How they think the information might relate to air quality in the United States, and * What, if anything, they think we could do to help increase awareness about these types of environmental disparities. For the next 35 minutes, students search online for articles about air quality and environmental justice in the area near our school's location. The data from real-time air quality index reports are available on every cell phone, and students decided to record it on a calendar to chart in Excel.
